Biography
LLB (Toronto), LLM (Harvard) of the Bar of Ontario
Professor Puri is an Associate Professor of Law at Osgoode Hall
Law School. She is a graduate of the University of Toronto Faculty
of Law (LL.B. Silver Medalist) and Harvard Law School (LL.M.). Professor
Puri's research expertise lies in corporate law, securities law,
corporate governance, and corporate and white-collar crime. Professor
Puri was recently a Visiting Professor at Cornell Law School and
is a recipient of the Osgoode Hall Law School Teaching Award. In
addition to numerous articles and reports, Professor Puri is co-author/co-editor
of 3 books: Corporate Governance and Securities Regulation in the
21st Century (with J.Larsen)(Butterworths, 2004); Canadian Companies'
Guide to the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (with L. McCallum)(Butterworths,
2004); and Cases and Materials on Partnerships and Canadian Business
Corporations (with D. Harris, R.Daniels, E.Iacobucci, I.Lee, J.MacIntosh,
and J.Ziegel)(Carswell, 2004). Professor Puri's recent articles
have appeared in the Cornell Law Review, the Osgoode Hall Law Journal,
the Canadian Business Law Journal, the Canadian Bar Association
Review, and the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics.
In 2003, Professor Puri was commissioned by the Ontario Securities
Commission to prepare a cost-benefit analysis on the Multi-Jurisdictional
Disclosure System in light of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (with
Anindya Sen). She was also an independent researcher for the federally-appointed
Wise Persons Committee on Securities Regulation, preparing a paper
entitled Local and Regional Capital Interests in the Debate on Optimal
Securities Regulatory Structure for Canada. Professor Puri was also
recently commissioned to prepare papers for Industry Canada (Corporations
Canada) on The Hallmarks of Good Corporate Law: A Performance Evaluation
of the CBCA (2004) and A Rational Allocation of Responsibility between
Corporate and Securities Laws in Canada (2004).
Professor Puri is currently working on a SSHRC funded project on
Auditor Liability in Canada (with Janne Chung and Linda Thorne)
and a Schulich Program on Financial Services funded project on Dual
Class Share Structures & Family Controlled Corporations in Canada
(with Stephanie Ben-Ishai).
