Biography
John W. Cioffi is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Riverside. Professor Cioffi received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Berkeley, in 2002 and his J.D. from Rutgers University in 1990. Professor Cioffi’s research explores the relationships between public law and political economy. His current research focuses on the comparative law and political economy of national corporate governance regimes in Europe and the United States, and the politics of corporate governance reform from the 1980s to the present. Professor Cioffi’s work finds that, in an era of globalization and free market ideology, the regulatory state has significantly expanded in scope and in the depth of its penetration into the private sphere. As the functioning of the corporation becomes increasingly central in the course of economic and social development, the regulation and legalism of corporate governance in particular has actually increased. Professor Cioffi has published numerous articles and chapters on the law and political economy of corporate governance, environmental regulation, the law and globalization, and the law and the digital economy. He teaches constitutional law, regulation, and comparative political economy. Prior to his academic career, Professor Cioffi clerked for a federal District Judge Dickinson R. Debevoise and practiced law with the New York law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton. |
