Errol Meidinger is a Professor and Vice Dean of Law and Adjunct Professor of Sociology at the State University of New York in Buffalo, and Honorary Professor of Forestry and Environmental Science at the University of Freiburg, Germany. During 2006-2007 he is the Distinguished Environmental Law Scholar at Lewis and Clark Law School in Portland, OR. His research focuses on innovative institutional arrangements for promoting environmental conservation and social justice. These include trans-governmental regulatory structures such as forest certification and fair labor standards programs, reconstructed property rights systems incorporating extra-state, customary, and indigenous rights, and revitalized indigenous law making and governance institutions. His recent publications include co-edited volumes on Social and Political Dimensions of Forest Certification (2003) and Confronting Sustainability: Forest Certification in Developing and Transitioning Countries (2006), as well as articles such as “The Administrative Law of Global Private/Public Regulation: the Case of Forestry, European Journal of International Law, 17(1):47-87 (2006).
